by more real tfnthusiasm than any

the body was (Sailed to order. This
committee has been unaltera

They thought they could not go
forward without incurring debt and
they were therefore rather expect
ing to lie compelled to take the Field
Secretary (Frank F. Whihlen) out
of the work. After an examination
of the treasurer’s book it was found
that there was just about enough
money in sight to meet the needs of

uctions relative’to the
tination of his ships, which, it is
explained “depends upon the re
quirements of the war.” x
The new minister of marine has
injected the greatest activity in his
department. It is said he has been
offered war munitions from many
quarters.
It is evident the new Spanish
cabinet intends to push the cam
paign vigorously, and, it is said, the
minister will also negotiate actively
with foreign diplomats to protect
Spain against a combination of her
enemies.

We most earnestly desire the
hearty co-operation of all Christians
of all denominations. The Associa
tion is Inter-denominational not
non-denominational. It is not for
the establishment of Sunday schools
except through the denominations.
The chief aim is to introduce better
methods in Sunday school work and
wake up a livelier interest in Sun
day school work in general.

Stairs Rchind In Their Quota Will Not
Indulged Much Longer.
Washington, May 20.—At 10:30
o’clock to-night it was announced at
the adjutant general’s office that
195,000 volunteers had been mus
tered into the United States army.
It is expected that from now until
O'e remainder of the 125,000 men
called for have been mustered the
work will proceed very slowly. It
is problematical whether the gov
ernment will wait the slow motion
of some of the States. The proba-
bility is that if the mustering of the
required quote is not completed by
the first of next week, the call, so
far as the delinquent jStates are
concerned, will be cancelled, and
volunteers will be accepted from
other States.
