It Beema now that the powers of Europe will offer to mediate 1>etween Spain and the United States, reports stating that notes looking to this “are passing by telegraph between the capitals of Europe.” No overtures of this nature have yet been made to our government, and, should they be made, there is little piobability of their acceptance. The position of the United States on this question is found in the following quoted statement of a cabinet; officer: “You can say for me that all the powers of Europe and the heads of all churches imv propose media tion to Spain if they desire, but the United States will positively not listen to mediation of any kind that does not lead to the ac ceptance of our condition, which is independence for Cuba.” ORANGE BLOSSOMS. The Jefferson County Record published at Diller, Nebraska, contains the following account of a marriage which took place on Wednesday evening, March 23:. “A very pretty wedding took place on Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. Blaus-;r, when their daughter Olevia, and Rev. D. B. McLaugh lin were united in holy wedlock. The ceremonial rite was impres sively administered by the Rev. J. L. MacNab, of Stanford, a form, er college-mate and close friend of the groom. Guests to the number of about 75 consisting of relatives and friends of the contracting pair, were assembled. Promptly at 7 o’clock there was heard the sweet strains of the beautiful “Wedding March" by Crist, which was artistically ren dered by S. Park Koons. The bride appeared clad in a beautiful costume of white silk tastily decked witli white roses. All present were clamorous in praise of the modest grace and queenly appear ance of the bride. Miss Edith Miller, of Beatrice, served as bridesmaid, and Mr. C. L. E. Blauser, of Fairbury, waited upon the groom. The ceremonies were conducted in a manner that de lighted all and reflected credit upon those who had them in charge. After the ceremony relatives and friends congratulated the happy pair, showering benedictions upon them and wishing them happy and useful lives in their new relations. The guests were then invited to partake of a repast that was truly “Fit for the Gods.” The table was beautifully decorated and groaned under its burden of all the indescribabledelicac es and dainties that tempt the human palate. After the feast, the guests in- dulgec in friendly, social conversa tion, or gathered in the hall to ad mire the display of beautiful and costly presents. They were also pleasinglv entertained with music by Mr. Park Koons, Misses Maude Price and Lillie Osborn, and Mrs. C. E. Blauser. The merry making was continued until the late hours of the night; when the guests all feeling that they had spent a most pleasant eve ning, bade each other and the newly made couple a hearty good night, and departed for their homes.” Chamberlain’* Cough Remedy Always Drove* Effectual.
