No damage was done that we have heard of except the blowing down of fences. Forest fires must have been rag ing west of us as the sun was ob scured all day by dust and smoke and it was altogether so unpleas ant that February 15 ’98 will long be remembered by house-keepers and merchants and those who had to face it- Mr. J. Let the investigation come and it the^e be not time enough this session, let it be taken np at the next, but for the honor of the State and the General Assembly don’t suppress it. THE LAST DAY. 0«a*r*l AwMmfeljr Adjonraod thla Morning •t S O'Woak—Tha Claalag Beattaa. There was a remarkably fine at tendance at ths closing day’s ses sion of the lower house yesterday. Speaker Gary and ths clerks were hard worked the entire day, the all night session having laid out much work to be done. The ses sion was tedious and unevent/ui up to the time the committee re ported on the public printing, awarding the contract to the Brysn Printing company of this city This was a surprise. The com mittee, however, went over all the bids carefully and decided that this was the lowest. The action of the committee was quickly rat ified, and the public printing will no longer bo done in connection with any newspaper. Mr. Simkius made a strong effort to get the house to pass his liquor referen dum resolution, but it failed, the house iudeftnately postponing the matter. Another result of the fi nal Hession was that the South Carolina college gels its 125,000. By 2 30 o’clock practically every thing of any importance was out of the wav, and a recess was taken until 4.30 p rn.
