FOR MERCHANTS Here is some sound and whole some advice given by oue who knows to advertisers: “Save mon ey on your advertising if you can, of course, but save it in the right way. Cut off the little leaks—the programs, the bills of fare, the di rectories, the wall charts, the pages in “Souvenirs.” Cut them all off, and your trade wont ever feel the difference.” SOUTH CAROLINA LKAOM Circular No. 8, of U. We expressed an honest sur prise at some of these figures. So much has been said about our worn out lauds, so much about the “poor farmer,” so much about 5 cents cottou and so little about the opportunities and blessings which are at our doors that we have all been more or less affected by the contagion of pessimism that has overspread the country, bnt we begin to think now it is all a fake. We, however, do not accuse our farmer fjiends of originating th» •tune “poor farmer,” but it was such a good phrase to use iu a political speech, and has been rang in their ears so often, that they have been almost persuaded of its truth.
