DK. ILDKRTON’H BILL.
I n connection with Dr. Ilderton’s
bill, which appears in another col
umn, we have only a little to say
school board elect its own chair-
to-day. There is no necessity
to increase the number of commis
sioners to eight. In fact we be
lieve that four can work more ad-
v antageously together. The
provision that each ward
elect its own commissioners is, we
believe, altogether unwise. Each
ta x-payer in the district wants to
and should have a voice in choos
ing commissioners. Commission
ers represent the district, not
wards, and in this matter one ward
differs not the slightest from an
other. In brief, this is the most
objectionable feature in the bill,
and if, to wipe it out, it be neces
sary to kill the biil entire, then we
hope it will be killed.

That we endorse the action of

have the cotton acreage of Stats
farms reduced.
Then this: The board of di
rectors of the penitentiary are re
spectfully asked to reduce the ac
