The old scheme of “chain letters’ has been put to new use by Hose Leech, a poor school teacher at Smoky Hollow, a mining camp near Alfia, Iowa. Mias Leech believed that a large number of charitable people over the country would not hesitate to contribute one cent to help secure a college education for poor girl. With this in mind, she wrote to a number of her friends, explaining her circumstances and her desire to acquire a college edu cation. Each of these she asked to contribute one cent, and to write to three of their friends asking them to do liisewise. At first the an swer* came slowly, but as the let* ters became more widely circu lated her mail became larger each day, until at present she is receiv ing over 100 letters a day, and the fund has reached 'nearly $500. The answers came from all parts of the country, and some of them were unique. Some come from unknown admirers, asking for photographs. Others contain of* fers of marriage, All of the let- letters contain cents, many of them nickels, dimes, quarters, and one man from Ohio enclosed $2 and an offer of his hand and heart- One man in Sandusky, Ohio, who is a manufacturer of a sure cure for rheumatism, writes to Miss Leech that be is handsome an has a large bank account. Hs i a widower and says he is looking for a wife. He refers her to Sen ate's Foraksr and Hanna as to his social and financial standing.. Miss Leech continues, deep te all of these tempting offers, to have only one object in mind, which is to secure a college education, which from oresent indications she is in a sure way to obtain — Columbia Raster. -♦* ♦ - Cotton seed meal and hulls for gfile at Oil Mill—Orders left at my office will have prompt atten tion.
