(tf) rear, “When well up on the divide, be tween Yellowstone lake and the east fork of the Yellowstone, seven of Fish er’s scouts started out in the night with the intention of getting around and in the rear of the Nez Perces camp, aud possibly getting away with some of the enemy’s horses. They tied their horses in some thick timber and proceeded ahead on foot, hnng on the outskirts of the lu camp, and finally two of them en j it and succeeded in untying one < war horses hitched m ar Chief Jo? lodge, when the camp dogs raised the alarm. “In an instant several warriors were on their feet, and the Bannocks made tracks for the Fisher camp, several miles back. The Nez Perces took after them and pressed so close that the Bannocks had to seek shelter in a little hollow, from which they shot defiance and lead at the Nez Perces warriors who surrounded them. Al though outnumbered the Bannocks stood tho enemy off for an hour after daylight, when the Nez Perces with- wed their, main camp, To AtUrU, • haclotto, Auguxia, Aiuena, Wilmington, N'-w Orb-ana, Chattanooga, Nash vide hu<1 N>'iv York, Boston, Dhiludel- pbia, Washington, Norfolk and Rn-hmoud. The sleeves are in coat shape, finished with epaulettes at the shoul ders and with astrakhan binding aud braid at the waists. At the neck is a high, flaring collar, and at the waist is worn a belt of handsome leather. Tho garment is lined throughout with plaid taffeta, the silk being cut precisely as is the cloth. Parly Dress for a Little OlrL In spite of the fact that light-weight silks, such as China and India, are held correct for small girls wear, writes May Manton, the greater num ber of party gowns are made from transparent material. The model shown in the largo engraving is pecu liarly adapted to organdy, mousseline- de-sjoie, colored net aud the like. As illustrated, the material is the finest white organdy with applied trimmings of white ribbon. The skirt is fall and straight and hangs in graceful folds over the under petticoat of the same material that is made somewhat less full. The waist, which is made over a fitted lining, is moderately low at the neck and has short, puffed sleeves which meet the long gloves of kid. The foundation is fitted by means of -the usual seams and consists of the usual pieces, the fulness of the out side being arranged in fine plaits at both neck and waist. At the neck is a finish consisting of double frills of tlie material which are held in place by bows of white ribbon. And at the waist is a sash bowed at the left side. With the gown are worn white silk stockings and slippers of white kid. The pattern, which provides for ’ high as well as low neck, shows per forations which indicate the line of the yoke and includes long sleeves which are used in conjunction with the puffs, ;which make the only sleeves when low neck is nsed. The skirt, as triren, is three yards plain npon the lining, bnt the fronts are fall and pouch slightly over the belt. The plastron is hewed firmly at the right side and is hooked over onto the left. The right front is also canght into place, bat the closing is invisibly effected beneath the left side which is fastened into place over the edge of the. plastron. The sleeves are snag- fitting to the shoulder where they are finished by slight puffs which support the stylish epaulettes. The crashed broken, and struck out on their north ern march. “When the Bannock scouts nelnrneil to Fisher’s camp they had no extra horses, and were lucky to get back with their lives. One of them, Tosi Colby Natsee, which means white faced boy, afterward commemorated the event of their close coll skirmish by painting it upon a piece of sheeting, using the juice of wild berries and such vermillion as he could crush out of the rocks to do the painting with. The execution is really wonderful, considering that the artist is a wild blanket Indian, who never had a les son in painting or any other civilized calling. He shows the scene as he participated in it. “To the left is the place where the Nez Perces lodges were, and leading from them are the tracks made by their war horses as they pursued the Bannocks, aud also the tracks made by the warriors after dismounting. To the right you see a little bunch of Ban- nock scouts, closely corral led and stand ing off their enemies, and beside them lie heaps of cartridge shells which they have emptied. To their left lies a dead warrior. A flight of arrows is shown, but the arrow business in this case is imaginary, os none •> ere nsed. It seems impossible for an Indian ta depict such scenes withont the old- time arrow gets in. Some of the war riors are mounted double, and decked out in gay colored war bonnets, these being the Nez Perces, while the war horses of the dismounted warriors are being held by herders close by. The artist’s sheet was somewhat small, so the distance between the surrounding scouts and the Nez Perces should be judged on a scale yf about a yard to the inch.”—Spokane (Wash.) Review. ♦ . The patient is John Acklin, aged 25, who was run down by a cable car in Chicago several weeks since. Among other injuries sustained the skin was torn from the back -if bis right hand. The surgeon took several pieces from the back of a live opossum, which were applied to the wound and lightly bandaged. This process will be repeated daily until the wound is covered, provided the experimental graft bids fair to be successful.— Chicago Record.
