May the members thereof expedi tiously discharge the duties incum bent upon them and return to their homes as soon as possible. A judge leaving the bench and striking an attorney at the bar is not at all a graceful spectacle. Yet this very thing recently occurred ent in California. Florence is a sort of junctional point. Trains come to this city from every direction, and some of them pass through Orangeburg. This should put our board of health on the qui vive, far there is no pic turing the possible ravages of the disease should it become prevalent in this section. Senatorially Mr. Mark Hanna may be standing dangerously near a quug mire, but from a standpoint of political influence he still stands flat-footed behind the McKinley throne. It is clearly demonstrated that small-pox exists in Orangeburg and that there is danger of its spread throughout the State. With refer ence to this matter it is useless to oourt danger, and the State health authorities should do all in their power to stamp out the loathsome diueaue.
