New Orleaua, Sept. 20.—There was ueitber improvement nor ag gravation of the yellow fever situ ation here to-day. Cases were numerously reported and as early at 0 o’clock threatened to equal if not exceed the number of last night, but at that hour the death record was Imalt. The fever seems to be slowly spreading around + • town, but up to the present time, no nest of cases has been found, and the authdnties have thus far been able to carry on their work of quarantine with some success. Many of the cases within the past few days have been found in , houses where sickness already ex , isted, but the instances are ex ^ * tromely rafe where the cases have P* been transmitted from one house ^ ^ to another adjoining. Yesterday’s 4*# record of four deaths created some alarm, §ut when to-day, up to- light time, there was no evidence , w Um the pace set yesterday was being kept up, the city breathed much easier. The record to-day was as follows: New cases 22, deaths 3. Average at Mobile. Mobile, Ala., Sept. oO.—The official bulletin of the board of health shows one death and six new cases of yellow fever. Although Governor Ellerbe has discharged all the regular and special liquor constables, be has retained Oetectivws Newbold and Eichelberger and they will move from point to point about the State and look after the enforce ment of the dispensary law. They are the only two men connected in any way with the old force to be retained. Yesterday a 44-calibre Colt’s pistol with a history was handed in to Clerk Harris by ex-Consta ble Duncan. It was ths pistol that Constable Pettigrew had and emptied in the battle with the moonshiners in Spartanburg conn- ty bsfore he was killed. The weapons are slowly coming in.
