MORK SIIICIOL.S ASPECT.
The Velluw I'«»er npituUiut: In New Orlwiaa.
Klghl New Cuaeaand One Oi-atli.
New Orleans, Sept. 17.—The
fever situation in New Orleans to
day assumed a more serious aspect
than at any time since Sunday,
when six of the St. Claude cases
were declared to be yellow fever.
At 6 o’clock this evening the
board of health of the city an
nounced the appearance of eight
new cases, and of these one death,
that of Zena Brauner.
At the office of the board of
health to-day the reports were
considered somewhat surprising
and disappointing. The situation
had so materially improved last
night that it was felt that pretty
much the worst had come, and
that conditions would improve.
Yesterday was one of the hottest
days of the month, and as yellow
fever thrives in that character of
weather, there seems to have been
a rapid development of germs.
The physicians still feel, howev
er, that there is much that is satis
factory in the situation. It ic true
that the new cases to day repre
sent the extreme upper the extreme
lower and the central portions of
the city, but there has been no
serious spread from the original
foci, and the hopeful opinion is
still expressed that the disease
may be controlled and that there
is no imminent danger of an epi
demic.
Yesterday there was but one
death in Mobile and no increase
in the ratio of cases.
At Vicksburg, Miss., eight new
cases are reported

is said, will save $10,000 a year by
printing the two cent stamps in
green, as ink of that color is less
coatly than carmine. The public
will be glad to see the familiar
color once more. It will recall
the time when it took three cents
instead of two to send a letter.—

A SPLENDID GIFT.
Curiously enough, neither class

years that there have not been
both women wranglers and also
tjrst classes in classics.

University.
(News and Courier.)
Greenville, September 17.—Fur
man University trustees made pub
lic to-day the fact that Dr. and
Mrs. F. A. Miles have made that
institution a gift of Caesar’s Head,
the famous summer resort. The
property consists of 2, 230 acres of
land, together with all buildings,
furniture and live stock. There is
no mountain resort better or more
favorably known than ‘The Head.’
The cash value of this bequest is
not yet known, but a few years
ago Dr. Miles refused a cash offer
of $20,000 dollars.
The trustees of the University
by the gift deed are required to
pay an annuity to Dr. Miles and
his wife during their lives. The
trustees have the right to make any
disposition of the property they
desire. The trustees accepted the
gift with all conditions, and papers
have been prepared by Capt. Wells
in accordance with the instructions
of the donors.
Mrs. Miles inherited the proper
ty from her father, Col. Ben
Hagood, who kept the hotel years
ago.

How to Fiud Out.
Fill a bottle or common glass with
urine ami let it stand twenty-four
hours; a sediment,or settling indicates
an unhealthy condition of the kidneys.
When urine stains linen it is evidence
of kidney trouble. Too frequent de
sire to urinate or paip in the back, is
also convincing proof that the kidneys
and bladder are out of order.
WHAT TO DO^
There is comfort in the knowledge
so often expressed, that Dr. Kilmer’s
Swamp Root, the great kidney remedy
fulfills every wish in relieving pain in
the hack, kidneys, liver, bladder and
every part of the urinary passages. It
corrects inability to hold urine and
scalding pain in passing it, or bad
effects following use of liquor, wine or
beer, and overcomes that unpleasant
necessity of being comp>eIled to get up
many times during the night to urinate.
The mild and the extraordinary effect
of Swamp Root is soon realized. It
stands the highest for its wonderful
cures of the most distressing cases. If
you need a medicine you should have the
best. Sold by druggists, price fifty
cents and one dollar. You may have
a sample bottle and pamphlet both sent
freeby mail. Mention Times-Messen-
