BLOW TO “ORIGINALS.” The Coast Line Will Handle Ne Such Freight god It is stated that the Other Hoads May Take Similar Action. (Colombia, Sept, it.) When the onginul package bus iness was first started in this*city, The Register aiiDoauced that the railroads would not accept ship ments made iu keeping with Judge Simoutoo’s orders. Later, some of tha-roads redded from the gen erally understood agreement but it appeara that the Atlantic Coast •Line nas invaiiably .refused to * haudle mob business except under compulsion. From an authoritative source, The Register learns that under the traffic association regulations, the Coast Line was compelled to haul ■ ome cars offered to it by connect ing lines, though aa a business matter, the company did not de sire to do so, as The Register's in formant learns. This however, is preliminary to the statement of the fact that the company will under no circum stances handle such shipments af ter the 15th instant. It is learned that circulars to this effect have been sent to all agents of the com pany in the State. Copies of the circulars were not obtainable yes terday, but the dispensary authcri- ties have been made aware of their contents. So far as could be learned, the circulars instruct agents to ship no liquors to or beyond their stations, unless they have the stamp of the board of control upon them. Another requires freight on all liquor shipped from beyond the state into it, to be paid in advance. The third is the most important, in that it states that the legal de partment of the company advises that the company will be liable for damages for breakage of such shipments whether released or not nnd positive instructions are there fore given that such freight shall not be accepted or handled. It is stated that other railroads will take similar action, and if they do, the original package business will be most seriously interfered with. Local officials of the Coast Line were asked to give some definite information about the circulars or their contents, but they refused to discuss the matter. Traveling Freight Agent Cully, when asked for copies of the circulars, would neither deny nor affirm that they had been issued, nor make any statement as to whether The Reg ister’s information was correct, saying that it would be manifestly improper for him to discuss the company’s policy in any matter before it was made public, even if he knew it. Nevertheless, the circulars will be posted in all probability in all offices of the company on the 15th inst., unless something should turn up in the meantime to cause them to be revoked.
