The railroad men of the city are of the opinion, although they have no official information as yet, that the rate for the naval rendezvous will be one fare for the round trip, with a generous time limit. This may he supplemented by some special excursion days, from some of the more central points. The rates are expected daily and it will certainly not be more than a day or two before the roads will begin to advertise their excursions. Let ters from every part of the South continue to pour into the city, and the hotels and boarding houses are booking rooms daily for people who expect to be in Charleston dur ing the stay of the fleet in these parts. The coming of theshipsis, of course, the prevailing topic of conversation and many pleasant parties are planning to be out on the water a great deal of the time when they arrive. Appreciating the fact that there will be an unusual demand for excursion boats the South Carolina Steamb oat Company has arranged to have both their fine steamers, the Planter and the Pilot Boy, in commission for the excursion busi ness during the blockade. They have made other arrangements for the handling of their coastwise business and the Planter and the Pilot Boy Will make trips to the s > as not t’l atluot ti.ioufch v>-sti- buli-d trains. lb* bit I t > repiiru railioads to A FREE BICYCLE. The testimonial benefit per formance tendered th« Florence band last night by the Emma Warren Theatre company was de cidedly the best performance so far rendered by the company dur ing their stay in our midst. They appeared in the celebrated comedy drama, “Michael Strogoflf.” It waa well rendered and the audience one and all, jndgin'g from the con tinual applause, enjoyed it very much. The band was pruseut and en tertained the aud.euce with se lections between acts. They held op their part cf the program in*- creditably. They played for the first time since its composition the selection called Imitation of Christmas Kve Celebration. Financially the show can not be called a success; that is, as far as the band is concerned, for after paying all expenses which were assigned to them iu the contract, their portion of receipts was very small. To-night, the society drama, “A Fatal Wedding” will be presented. All ladies are admitted free pro vided their escorts have paid tick ets. — » Not a few who read what Mr. Robert Rowls, of Holland, Va., has to say below, will remember their own experience under like circumstances, “Last winter I had Ida of Rmhlaud introduced the m as- / ure proposed by the pr»bibiti >uista of the State for the solution of the liquor problem.
