Lawyers of undoubted ability and exalted character, and none other, are worthy to wear the ermine. The legislature will elect a chief justice of the supreme court. There is no opposition to Judge Mclver so far, and this able judge and good man will, without doubt, Chicago, Jan. 10.—Articles of incorjioration were secured yester day at the State auditor’s office at Springfield for what is designed to be the largest banking institution west of New York city. The con cern is styled th<- General Trust Company of Illinois and its capital stock is named at $5,000,000. The incorporation fee of $5,275 is the largest e/er paid into the State treasury under the new incorpora tion law. The incorporators named are employees in the office of the law firm of Goodrich, Vincent Brad ley. Ex-Judge Wm. A. Vincent declined last evening to shed any ight on the big corjioration beyond stating that it was a bona fide en terprise and that it was intended to be a mammoth affair. “I am sorry that the news of this has got otit,” said Mr. Vincent, “as the gentlemen who are back of the enterprise are not ready to make their plans public.
