As soon as the news reached Sum ter, the Sheriff organized a posse o men, chartered a special car anc came to Mayesville, where rein forcemeats from this town and the surrounding country awaited him ready to place themselves under his command. Sqon word reached tho Sheriff here that Simon Coop er had been seen within two milts of Sumter in a buggy wrapped up in a quilt with another negro driv ing him. The Sheriff then divided the volunteers into several posses and sent them out into different directions, while he with several others returned to S..niter on a special train. Several persons who came to Mayesville during the day reported that they had met a buggy on the road and that some one was in the.buggy wrapped up in a quilt and to one person the driver of the vehicle said that the person so wrapped up was his wife and that ■•he was sick and that he was taking her to the doctor. The Wilsons were white people of high standing in their community and their un timely death is deplored by all who knew them. Mr. Ben Wilson was an old man, about 80 years of age, his spa Wesley was about 40, Mrs. Wesley about 35. Two poor, little innocent children have been left orphans on account of the terrible dEed of the monster Simon Coop er. Up to this hour Cooper has not been captured, but it is almost impossible for him to escape as the country is being scoured fn every direction for him, and if captured, we predict that his fate will be a most terrible one.
