FLORENCE. S. C.. WEDNESDAY EVENING DEC. 18 18,'t5. WILL IT BE WAR? The praise of the entire country has been given Mr. Cleveland on account of the stand he has taken on the Venezuelan question, and it is not by one party alone, but all agree in this no matter how widely different their views on other questions. In Congress both houses applauded it, the usually dignified Senate express ing their appreciation by a pro longed clapping of hands. All agree that the time for decisive action on the part of the United States has come, and that England i must either give up or go tc war. Already there has been talk of volunteers if there should be need of soldiers. The Confederate Vet erans Camp of New York met Monday night and adopted resolu tions endorsing the President and offering, if necessary, to raise in New York a company of Confeder ate Veterans “to battle for the honor of our country, and the glory of our flag.” Other orders and societies have expressed their willingness also. The European press is, naturally, not pleased with it, but are bitter in their de nunciation. One paper says “America has no concern in the Venezuelan dispute.” Both coun tries look upon the situation as a very serious one, and likely to cause war between the nations, and though they look upon it as a calamity, neither are willing to make any concessions td the other.
