Engine 79 is receiving her finish ing touches. The children say there is snow in Penny’s window. The passenger depot is receiving a new coat of paint. D. M. Hoqk is reported better after resting well last night. Rev. Sifley, formerly of Liberty Chapel, is in the city to-day. R. S. Churchill, editor of the Dillon Herald, is in the city to day. J. A. Hutchinson has been down to Pregnalls, working on a pump boiler. E. S. Lathrop left this morning for Salem Mills to take charge of his new work. Blair McKenzie and W. W. Mc- Millian intend to leave Sunday morning for Atlanta. We had a small snow storm yes terday, but the only effect is the dampness under foot. Mr. James Husbands is having a couple more rooms added to the rear of his residence. If you look up over the door of Mr. Hoffmeyer’s store you will see your old friend, Santa Claus. Misses Nettie and Alice Rike, of Pelzer, S. C., are visiting their brother, J. W. Rike, of this city. Mr. Ives had his candy tent taken down during the snow yes terday, for fear the weight would break it down. George Stackley perpetrated a good joke on a darkey from the country, the other day. The aforesaid darkey had surreptitious ly taken and appropriated to him self three pieces of bacon, the property of the aforesaid George Stackley. Mr. S. quietly got the darkey out of the store, removed the bacon from the darkey’s bag and placed, instead thereof, three good healthy brickbats. The dar key hied himself homeward, soon after, and it is presumed found his mistake when he attempted to cook them for his Sunday dinner. Festival- The young ladies of the Florence Baptist church will have a festi val at the store building of Dr. Rutledge on Friday night, the pro ceeds to be given to the church. Ice cream and cake, oysters, coffee and sandwiches will be served. All are invited to enjoy a pleasant evening. MARION fklTCS. *. What la Going on In Marion’s Capital town. Robt. McMillan took in Gala week in Charleston. W. B. Atkinson, of Sellers, was in town last Tuesday. J. M. Johnson spent last Friday in Wilmington on business. Julian DeW was attending to business in town last Monday. There was an exceedingly pleas ant dance at the council chamber last week. * *3 Mies Eleanor Gregg, of Fair Bluff, is visiting her grand-mother on west Godbold street. Mr. and Mrs. McKay, of Phila delphia, were the guests of Chan cellor Johnson this week. Union services were held in the Presbyterian church last Sunday night. Rev. Corey delivered an excellent sermon on “Our heaven ly home.” # Misses Eloise Johnson and Julia Mullins left for Charleston last Monday afternoon. They will spend the entire week in the city i.y the sea, enjoying thegayeties of her holiday season. The several Xmas stores are now fully equipped for the holiday trade, and groups of children may be se< n surveying the many arti- clewjn.d getting up data for their list • i wants to be written to Santa Claus. There has been a variety show located between Davis’ jewelry store and Tenhet & McIntyre’s drug store. Performances mostly by trained dogs were given Satur day and Monday nights and Mon day afternoon. The annual session of the Meth odist conference is adjourned and the several preachers have been assigned to their respective fields of work for the coming year. W. S. Martin has been returned to us, and, speaking for ourselves, we are glad to have him back. Mr. and Mrs. P. Y- Bethea gave their many young friends a very pleasant reception at their home on last Thursday night, in Jionor of Miss Ferguson. We know that we voice the feelings of all pres ent, when we say that the evening was as pleasantly spent as our kind hosts wished it to be. The Pee Dee Telephone Co’s, line from here to Dillon via Latta, is now in operation, and is giving perfect satisfaction. The rates are 10 cents for a straight mes sage and 15 cents for a conversa tion. All messages will be deliv ered, any information desired found out, if possible, and any one desired called to the phone for a private conversation by the respective agents. This is much more satisfactory than writing letters and costs very little more and there is no delay in getting an answer. Give the line a trial. W. S.
