JOliK T. COFFIN, Editor and Manager. R COFFIN. Associate Editor rt FLORENCE. S. C.. WEDNESDAY EVENING DEC. 11 18#5. Mr. Moody, the evangelist, will be in Charleston in January. It is reported that ex-President Harrison will soon be married. A special from Charleston says that J. Adger Smy the will be Charleston’s mayor, by about 400 majority. The Evening Dispatch, of Wil mington, has come under new management, and been reduced to its original size, but has the ad vantage of the dispatches now that will add much to its useful ness and interest. Those who went to Charleston yesterday to enjoy Gala week fes tivities wers disappointed for they reached the city in a pouring rain that effectually prevented any sort of a demonstration. Everybody looked for better weather to-day and they probably had it. The city is said to be entertaining thousands. Electric cooking stoves are used in some of the cities with great success and it is prophesied that electricity will before long take the place of coal, wood or gas in the kitchen, while the houses will be heated cheaply and well by the same agency. Electricity is now used by many street car companies for heating the cars. A dispatch from Richmond says that the old Jefferson Davis man sion will be formally opened in January with a reception to which many of the ex-Confederate sol diers will be invited. Mrs. Davis and her daughter will be present. The house was taken possession of by the ladies of the Confederate Memorial and Literary society on Friday, the anniversary of Mr. Davis’ death who held their first meeting thera. The Republican National con vention will be held in St. Louis, on the 16th of June 1896. The competitors being St. Louis, San Francisco, Pittsburg, Chicago and New York. TLANTIC COAST LINE.
