F. Lever, honorary , Itate chairman for South Carolina, has the endorsement of nearly every high government and state official. Woodtow Wilson and President Harding have given their unqualified endorsement to this great humanitarian work. Governor Robert A. Cooper is taking . $ leading part in giving this appeal Impetus through personal letters of indorsement to as many pastors, Sunday school superintendents and prom- i fhent citizens as he can. Both houses , pf the South Carolina general asscmMy have endorsed very strongly the Work and workers of the Near East Relief. Congressman Lever's letter calling attention to the fact that every five dollars ($5.00) given saves the life f a child for a month follows: Columbia, Dec. 10, 1S21. Dear Sir: * During the World War, when the nfvts of the destitution In the Near East was reported to the / authorities in Washington, it was r my privilege to have first hand information relative to the tsr; ribie conditions in Armenia.. I have Just had an interview : with members of the Commission who spent three months last turn v' mer In the Near East studying -condition#, especially In Armenia / and Syria, and they report an ap| palling situation which, up to the - . > present hour, has not been ade'."t quateiy answered In spite of the | commendable and oontlnued gent srosity of our people, f The Turks did not yacate this country until the month of August .* This did not give the Armenians a chance to raise a crop, and this means that a multitude of women v~ _~^nd children will be In need of _ fopsLthls winter. There are 110,CfOO children In 229 orphanages in the Near East who would die like >. ?| flies if the Relief Committee would V out off their supplies. You do ndt wish South Carolina :) to quit when what remains to be > done in relief Is smalt compared with what has been done. Neither ; ? do you want to lose the spiritual 3' satisfaction that will come from "seeing the thing through" In characterlstically thorough American ? fashion. The glamor of the war lias gone. Real love, real vision and real sacrifice are called for now as never In the Near ?ast t You can feed one of the fatherless children of that desolate land for five dollars ($5.00) a month. For the completion of the task y that blesses every giver and for the feeding of the dependents, wnose xaxe is in ine oaiance, pleats send to William M. Gibbet, '? Jr., 211 Liberty National Bank w Building, Columbia, S. C., your ; " contribution for as many months ? as you can give. X Sincerely yours (Signed) A. P. LEVER, Honorary State Chairman.
