ROAD BUILDING PROGRAMS

Columbia, Oct. 22.?"Impressed j
with * the absolute necessity of im- j

when there is considerable unem- J

Alabama has convened in special ses

purpose of passing a $25,000,000 bond!
issue for the construction of a state J
highway system", says a statement is- j
sued yesterday by .the South Caro- j
lina Good Roads Association. The,'
statement declares that there is activity
in almost every state in the \
nation now along road-building lines j
and declares that the people of South j
Carolina should unite and demand the j
inauguration of a program of road- j

statement it is proposed to authorize
a bond issue in the sum of $50,000,000
for the construction of roads. As is
generally known an issue of $50,000,000
was authorized at the last session
of the Xorth Carolina General i
Assembly and permanent highways
are being built all over that state. ;
"It is now clearly up to South j
Carolina to take steps to insure road- j
building in this state on a large scale J
or we are surely going to decline in j
value; our rural population will do- j
crease and soon the life of the whole |
state will be affected. This is the j
age of progress and one must keep j
step with his neighbor or be lost in 1
the shuffle."
