PNEAR EAST RELIEF REORGANISED FOR STATE Cblumbia, April . 15.?Announcement was made yesterday that a reorganlaztfon of the Near East Relief forces in South Carolina had been made. , Gen'l Wilie Jones, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the t Palmetto Bank, has taken over the State Chairmanship for the work. Governor Roh'i-. A- Cooper, accepted * the Hdnorary State Chairmanship. ,Wm. M. Gibbes, Jr.. .cashier of the Palmetto National Bank, has succeeded E. O. Black who has resigned as State Treasurer. Claude W. Hopper a new State Director, with oflices in liberty National Bank Building. Mr. . Hopper is State Director of the States tha twn Pnrnllnnn Rnnr. \ gia and Florida and will have personal supervisionx over the work in this State. Miss May Meetze, former State Secretary, has severed her connection with "the * organization, therefore, she will no longer be connected with the work in any way. Gen'l. Jones is well and favorablj known throughout the entire State ttnd he stated that his reason for accepting the chairmanship of this worfc was because he thought that overj Christian man and woman in the State of South Carolina should rails to the support of the one hundred and ten thousand litle orphan children who are being CAred for in the orphonages of the Near East Relief ir Armenia, Syria, Mesopotamia, Rus,sia, Caucasus, Persia and Palestine Cen'l. Jones announced the fact thai he wanted the people to know that the Near East Relief is not in any waj connected wit^i the European Reliel Council, which was headed by Mr Herbert Hoover and furthered by the Literary Digest, and that it is nol connected in -anv wav with the Chin use Relief. Neat* East Relief is the only philanthropic organization chartered by .congress with the exception of the ,Red Cross, and these two organizations are separate and distinct. Governor Cooper stated upon accepting the Honorary State Chairmanship foi this gerat and good work, that he was willing to do anything he possibly could to make the tvork successful in this State.
