Swansea, Oct. 31.?Luke Athel
Cuaney, six years old, was run over
by an automobile between 4 and 6 o'clock
hero this afternoon and almost
instantly killed. The car wus driven
by a Mr. Martin of Columbia and was
moving at a slow rate of speed. The
little fellow attempted to cyoss the
road just ahead of the car and fell
| and before the car could bo stopped
I both wheels had passed over his body.

Did DAMAGE SUITS IN
\gMcCORMICK COUNTY
McCormick, Oc/. 29.?Two of the
largest damage suits ever instituted
in the Courts of this county is that
of Mrs. {da M. Black as administratrix
of the estate of the late Dr.
P. K. Bhtck, against the Charleston
a- Western Carolina Railroad coitw
pany lor the death of Dr, Blu<;k, resulting
from injuries ?he sustained
August 23 of this year while crossing
the railroad near Mt. Carmel in
this county. His death was on trie
11th of September. One suit is for
the benefit of the estate of Dr. Blank
ana this alleges damages in the sum
or $ev,ueo. The other is brought tor
the benefit of the widow, Mrs. Ida
M. Black, and her children, AJiss,
Dora Pickens Black, Miss Mary Florence
Black and James Floyd Black
and Fred Black, and the amount of
damages sued for in this is ?75,000.
It is alleged in the complaint that
the defendant company failed to
give crossing signals and allowed the
right of way of the railway company
to be planted in corn and allowed
the right of way to grow up
in grass, weeds, ^bushes, etc., and being
in a deep cut known as Rock
Cut, the plaintiffs intestate could
not see the approach of the train,]
which was a mixed train coming]
