Kl'MMKIl TOURISTS SWARM IX) "LAND OP TIIK SKY." Asheville, N. C., Juno 28.?Since J the inauguration of special summer passenger train service to the Land of the Sky" by the Southern Railway System, such streams of tourists have been pouring into Asheville and the other resorts of the mountains 01 Western North Carolina that passenger officials are predicting that travel this season will even surpass that of last year when the Southern brought in over a hundred thousand tourists during the summer season. Just how this army of tourists was handled to and from the Western North Carolina resorts is told in an article reprinted from the Asheville Citizen to which the Southern is giving a wide distribution, not only throughout the South but also in other sections of the countryThis article shows the Southern operated nineteen regular slcepjng car lines in and out of Asheville every day during the 1919 summer season and that in addition to these it was necessary to run 197 extra sleeping .ears into Asheville and 414 extra sleeping cars out of Asheville. The larger number of outbound cars was necessary because the home-bound movement was largely confined to a few weeks in September and October. Additional regular facilities have been provided to take care of the larger flow of tourists which is expected this year and Asheville and all the other mountain resorts are making greater efforts than over before to provide entertainment and amusement for their guests. oi.n cLiOTIIES. Not all of our histories, "our traditions, our blind beliefs, deserve to be discarded simply because they have lived a long time and were dear t? our forefathers. Some old people deserve and receive a greater love than in the days of thdir youth. An en impatient of.progress is not sure of a gain by a contemptuous rejection of the things that were acceptable ages ago. Not all the beauty is of youth and all the flowers do not bloom in the spring. Age brings a ripening mellowness that has a charm of its own ?a poise and a serenity, a sense of values and a temperance that have their own reward. "Childhood's happy hour" is by no means filled with raplure; there is no adult distress so real and so all-obliterating as the grief of a child. For the child has not the experience or the knowledge that are the foundation-stones of faith. The child cannot see past the minutes to the hours and beyond the hours to the yours. The immediate grief is the great reality, and it is all there is. The secret of the enjoyment of life ic tint i n tlin ??noeneeior* forever are In quest of something new. An old friendship, tried hy time, seasoned hy sympathy and by the division of the burden life imposes, is the best. Married folk who have been partners these long years would not be happy (as a rule) to dissolve the long-standing partnership in favor of a girlish bride or a boyish groom. The twain in growing old together have realized a community of spirit' that brings to both a felicity tranquil and enduring. In ways that are moro significant than mere appearance, each has come to seem to the other fairer and dearer than in the radiant morn of youth.
