MOVEMVENT Irregular Hungarian Forces Said to Have Made Demonstration Effec tive for Moment. Vienna, Aug. 29 (By the Associated Press.)-The Austrians have met with resistance from the Hungarians in the occupation of Burgenland, the little strip of West Hungary award ed by the peace treaty, according to reports reaching here. Late Sunday night Lieutenant Hoj jas, one of the recalcitratn leaders in West Hungary, appeared, heading a large detachment of his irregular forces, seized the railway station at Obenburg and filled the streets with uniformed men urmed with pistols. One detachmefnt of 170 men ad vanced to Pinkafeld, where they met with hand grenades and machine guns the Austrians who were coming in to take over the territory. It is reported that Hejjas and other Hungarian officers were in full uni form when the attack was made. There are conflicting reports con cerning the casualties, but it is not believed they were great. It is said allied officers marched with the Austrian troops when the attack was delivered by the Hun garians. A demonstration by the Czechs Is expected unless the allies forbid the occupation of Burgenland. The Czechs are known to be concentrate a full division on the frontier near Press burg and other forces along the Hungarian border. The movement of occupation has been suspended, and Her Schober, the Austrian chancellor and foreign minister, is appealing to the inter allied representatives to take the necessary steps to secure a fulfill ment of the terms of the treaty giv ing Burgenland to Austria. As far as is known the only foreigners in the territory is a few hundred Ital ians. The events in West Hungary have eaused the greatest anxiety and ap prehension here. Communication with Odenburg is cut and it is re ported that the railway has been torn up. Details are lacking as to the exact situation, but it seems ap parent that insurgents are in pos session of Odenburg. Announcement that a through train to be known- as the "Suwanee River Special," the first through train ever run between the Ohio riv er and the west coast of Florida, will be inaugurated, has been made by the interested railways. The distance between Atlanta and Tampa via- Hampton is 54 miles shorter than via Jacksonville. 'ihe opening of through train service and through ticket arrangements via this route will put the reduced rates in effect. 10 - SALUDA FARMERS TURN TO CATTLE Saluda, Aug. 29.-The first car load of pure bred beef cattle ever to be brought into Saluda county ar rived in good shape Thursday. These cattle were purchased recent ly when County Agent Eleazer ac companied a party of farmers to Georgia for the purpose of looking over some herds. Those getting in foundation stock for starting a hero were Dr. J. W. Pitts, L. E. Wheeler and R. 11. Etheredge. Twenty-two head in all were brought.
