C., where they will spend a few weeks. Mrs. S. I. Harvin left Saturday for Columbia a'nd other points where she will visit several days. Matthews, one of the leading ministers of the South Geor .via Conference, will preach in the Methodist church next Sunday morn ing at 11:30 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Word has been received here of the arirval of a baby girl to Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jones of Sumtc r. Mrs. Jones will be remembered as Miss Bessie Dick son. Mrs. W. R. Gray and mother, Mrs. Mrs. Ford, left Tuesday for a visit in McCall, Greenville and Gray Court. Mr. Gray will join Mirs. Gray in Gray Court the later part of this week. Mirs. John Ray and children of Da! ton, Ga., Mrs. William Berg and daughter of Sumter, and Mr. Jack Krawich of Anniston, Ala., spent Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Beie Ness. The first bale of 19?1 cotton raised in Clarendon was brought to Manning yesterday by Mr. W. T. Briggs of Sil ver and was bought by Mr. W. G. King for 16 cents. Mr. Briggs made 187 hales last year on 125 acres, this year he has the same number of acres planted in cotton which he says he doesn't expect more than 25 bales.
