Hirschmann returned last Saturday from an extended stay in New York. Miss Annie McRoy returned last Thursday from a two week's stay in Oharfeston. Misses Sue Sprott and Tora Bagnal returned Saturday night from a stay in Henflersonville, Mr. Harry Leard of Norfolk, Va., spent Sunday with his sister, Mrs. Geo Huggins. Miss Cania Burgess is visiting her grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs., J. T. Stukes. Mr. W. T. Glenn of Philadelphia, Pa., was a guest in the home of Mrs. DuBose Huggins on Sunday. Misses Tora Bagnal and Sue Sprott returned home from Hendersonville last Saturday. Mr. J. M. Napier is cut again after an eight week's illness of typhoid fever. Mr. Elbert Davis has sufficiently recovered from his illness of typhoid fever to be out again. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Webb Sprott at Jordan last Thursday, a baby boy, Webb, Jr. MhtrS. M. C. Last Thursday during a lightning storm, Dixon Eady and his daughter were killed. On July 25th in Sugnter, John Hug gins, the negro who is charged with raising and trying to cash a postal money order, was given a prelhnin ary hearin before U. S. Commission er, R. J. Bland. Huggins pleaded guilty to having tried to cash the money order, but stuck to his o1d story of not bei6sg guilty of raising it from $15 to $55. Ib T obacco Prices Mud Improved Over the Opening Sale. To the Tobacco Producers of Clarendon and Counties contigious to Manning: Gentlemen: Our market has improved each day since the opening sale. The average on my floor for the opening sale was $5.57 per hundred. Today it was $7.30 for 13,000 pounds, floor scrap and all. We have a full corps of good experienced, intelligent buyers, men that are good judges of tobacco. We had added to our force yesterday R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., and notwithstanding the face that the tobacco is very commo nthis concern is buying a good deal of tobacco. Reynolds usually buys only good tobacco. Cothran deeply deplores the fact that the tobacco crop is of the poorest quality in many years. It indeed is a calamity on our growers and tobacco warehousemen as well. If tle crop was of good quality it would average around fifteen cents from what I can see. I would advise the growers to cure and handle the crop of tobacco to best pos. sible advantage, and be certain and sell it in Manning with Cothran. This is a time when you need an experienced man to handle your tobacco. Cothran's knowledge of tobacco and salesmanship, coupled with good auctioneering, will get results you cannot afford to miss. Use the same judgment in selling your tobacco thatyou would use in making i a good business deal.. Bear this in mind at the best you can do you are not get ting what you are entitled to. This is a time when judgment of quality is .worth a great deal to the growers. Cothran has the best warehouse in Mann = ing, light and convenience, second to none in South Carolina.
