Pulling the Mound Down Trhe moun(ls should be torn (own from the Ist. to 15th. of October, and the trees examined for the borer. The presence of the borer will be noted by the exudation of gum, and may be easily removed with a knife, or wire. After the trees have been worked, a second coat of trunk wash, made as directed, should be applied and then wood ashes are available, two to three quarts may be applied around the base of the tree. It is very important that this mound be pulled dlown at the proper time; otherwise, it will be detrimental to the growth of the trees, as it furnishes an excellent place for the borer to work. W. R.
