THE MANNING TIMES Entered at the Postoflice at Manning as Second-Class Matter. Appelt & Shope, Proprietors. Published Every Wednesday Subscription Rates $2.00 per year in Advance MANNING, S. C., WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29, 1921 PROTECTION SHOULD BE GIVEN Several days ago a mad dog running wild in the lower part of the town was shot by Policeman Yassney. On investigation Mr. Yassney found that -he do.1 had bitten several other dogs,-among them being one belonging to Ir. H .M. Thomas. On Friday Mr. Thomas was bitten by his clog, which he i nniediately had shot. The head was sent to Columbia where it was found that the log had a well-defined case of rabies and Mr. Thomas is now tak ing tnc treatment. A s far as we can learn there has been no steps taken to protect the peo ph: fom the danger of the oth r dogs that were bitten by the animal that ran armuck. We understand Chat there is an ordinance stating what action should be taken in a case like this, but so far nothing has been clone. We believe that our town oflicials are making a grave mistake in not taking the proper steps to protect our citizens against this dreaded disease. __ ---- oo OUR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE -0 Wt have been repeatedly asked what has become of our Chamber of Comn mer IQ. We find, after ati incomplete investigatior, that it is a lack of initia tive on the "'art of the business men of this place. Every one seems in favor of tryieg to revive this defunct organization, and we, with the rest, believe that a great amount of good would result if we could get it to functioning again. There is plenty of opportunities to be taken advantage of, such as taking stelm to improve our tobacco market, forming marketing associations to help the sale of our pro(luce, trying to interest capital in the establishment of a cannery, a tobacco stemmery, ani various other little industries which are in lne with an agricultural country. We believe that with the proper effort that the Chamber of Commerce can bc revived and get into first-class working shape in a short time. Let us get. together and try and do so r''thing, instead of getting rustier as each year passes. --........-..... -.....--00----------------. Not all ien sqiuander theii hard earned nionoy.
