LeGrand has returned home after spending the summer at the home of Mrs. J. W. Odiorne In Williston. Miss Hazel Rozier has returned to Washington, D. C. after spending sev eral days with her sister, Miss Cath erine Rozier. Miss Addie Weinberg, who had been the guest of relatives in Sumter for the past several days, has returned home. Mr. R. D. Cothran left on Monday for Brookneal, Va., where he will be engaged in the tobacco warehouse business. Mr. Jodie Thames, formerly of Sil ver, but who for the past few years has been living in Chesterfield, was buried in the Manning cemeter-y last Sunday. Mr. Louis Wood, who has been court stenographer for the pats seventeen years in this circuit has resigned, and is succeeded by Mr. David Stack of this county. Mr. Hugh A. Plowden has been ap pointed by Governor Cooper to fill the unexpired term of auditor for Claren don county made vacant by the death of Mr. A. P. Burgess. Mrs. John Barton is in the Baptist hospital, Columbia, having undergone an operation last Saturday. The op eration was a success and she is im proving. Dr. Thornton Whaling, one of the strongest ministers, and best speakers of the South, will speak at the Pres byterian Church 8 P. M. Wednesday, October 6th. Public cordially invited. Mr. Clarence Baggett has resigned his position as teller in the Palmetto Bank in Columbia, and has assumed the cashiership of The Farmers Bank at Ayden, N. C. Died at his home in Boston, Fla., last Sunday, Mr. Jacob Cole, aged about 67 years. The deceased was a brother of Mr. Furman Cole of Seloc, and half brother of Dr. J. A. Cole of Manning. H1. D.
