LIABILITIES ARtE $7,000,000 Defendant Smiles at Query Regarding International Postal Coupons Boston, Aug. 24.-A payment of less than fifty cents on the dollar to the creditors of Charles Ponzi's quick rich scheme, if oflicial estimates of his liabilities are correct was indicated by his statement of assets at the re ceiver's hearing today. Assuring the federal receivers that he had dis closed all he knew Ponzi told of as sets which Robert G. Dodgr, counsel for the receivers, declared were "not ivorth anywheer near $3,000,000." The official , estimate of his li- bilities, made after an audit of his accouiits, stands at $7,000,00. l'onzi said he thought this was in error. lie elpimed that he was solvent and had nea1ly four mililons of asset-s to meet his liabilities, which le set at three mil lions. The hearing was stormy at times. Daniel 11.
