HARDING MUST FACE PROHIBITION ISSUE Dry Leader Calls on Nominee to Out line Position. TO SEE GEN. WOOD TODAY Notification Ceremony Will Take Place at Marion July 22. Marion, 0., July 9.-Sen. Harding the Republican candidate for President was urged to take a firm stand in support of national prohibition in his speech of acceptance 4 a conference . today with J. Frank Hanley, former Governor of Indiana and prohibition candidate for President in 1916. Later it was announced the senator had not . committed himself regarding the matter, while Mr. Hanley said he hoped to be able to support him. Mr. Hanley declared that he came to Marion to present the matter to the Republican nominee as an individual prohibitionist and not as a repreuenta tive of prohibition advocates. Regarding the conference Senator Harding said Mr. Hanley only "pre sented his views as to constructing the platform as others have (lone," adding, "we are always glad to listen." Notification Plans Ready. Plans for officially notifying Sen ator Harding of his nomination were announced today following a confer ence between the nominee and T. Coleman Dupont, of Delaware, chair man of the committee on arrange ments for the Republican national committee, and Harry M. Daugherty, of Columbus, the Senator's manager, in the preconvention campaign. The event will take place at 2 p. ni. July 22, in Garfield Park on the out skirts of Marion, with National Chair man Will 11. Hays presiding. Follow ing the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by the Republican Glee Club of Columbus, invocation will be pro nounced by Rev. T. T. MtcAfee, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, of Marion, which the Senator attends. Senator Lodge, of Massachusetts, permanent chairmen of the Chicago convention and chairman of the notification com mittee, will then deliver an address notifying the Senator of his nomina tion to which the nomniee will reply.
