We learn that the Levi block o stores have been sold, but we ar unable to find out the purchasers. Miss Gertrude Hailey left her Tuesday morning for Danville, Va where she has accepted a position wit1 Miss Fannie Weaver. \ Died suddenly last Friday night John Covert, colored. The decease& was a well. known carpenter, and re spected by both white and colored, There is a st7ite law forbidding boy: under 14 years to drive automobiles but some people pay no attention tc the law in Manning. The attention cf the officers is called to this mat ter, The citizens meeting called for last Thursday night to discuss the coming town election did not materialize. A ticket having been nominated, we pre sume that is the reason they did not come out. Mr. Geo. D. Siiiith of Workman aC cidently fell in the fire and was burn ed to death last Friday. Mr. Smith was a brother-in-law of Mrs. S. M Reardon of Manning ansd was onc coroner of Clarendon. Died last Saturday, Mrs. Mar gerette Reardon Pickett. They were released tonight on bonds of $500 each. Both were called by the defense in an effort to establish an over tsct on the part of Warren 0. Grimm, with' whose murder the defendants are charged specifically. Before counsels, contending proof had been established that Grimm had participated in an attack on the . W. W. hall in Centralia, which the defense asserts immediately preceding the kill ings, renewed efforts to get before the jury evidence relating to an alleged conspiracy of Centralia business men to raid the hall. The court sustained objections to this testimony, but agreed to hear arguments on the mat ter tomorrow. FUNERAL OF BANKHEAD HELD AT HOME TODAY Washington, March 2.-The body of Senator Bankhead of Alabama left here tonight for Jasper, Ala., accom panied by the congressional delega tion appointed to attend the funeral and members of the fami!'. Funeral services were held here to day at the Washington residence, but a second service will be held Thurs day noon at Jasper with Masonic ceremony. Jasper, Ala., March 2.-The special train bea rine: the 'body of Senator J. H-. Bankhead and the senatorial fun vral party will arrive here from Bir ri ingham at 10 o'clock Thursday and the funeral will be held immediately afterward ait the Methodist church. Governor Kilby and hundreds of Ala bamians will also reach Jasper on a spec ial train Thursday and the fun eral promises to be one of the most largely attendled ever held in the state 'The Masons will be in charge of the services at the cemetery.
