The five freight cars wire 'etled with barrels of the pick!e'l cab bage, each barrel weighing 3110 pounds. It is now beinug distributed among the messes of the various divi sIons. In addition to the "Liberty cabbage" the Americans also took poss(ssion oi several carloads of potatoes, many tons of turnips and other perishables. These were also distributed and aided. many mess sergeants in servine: Thanksgiving dinners to the American troops. -W -S-S HUT ONE 'TlRKEY AT FRON'' j American Army of Occupation Hiad Other Meats American Army of Occupation, Nov. 28.-Only one turkey was served on 'T'hanksgiving Day in the entire Amer iean army of occupation. This was at the mess of fifteen far-sighted offi cers of the bureau of operations at thee headquarters of the Third di vision at Remich. The turkey was pur chased November 11 and was fattened 'for the feast today. Other Thanksgiving dinners in th" army varied according to the resource fulness of the mess officers and the inienuity of the cooks. \ hile the Americans had plenty of wholesome and substantial food, from the enemy lines came further reports of hunger an ong the released} Allied prisoners, food riots among the de feated troops and civilian privations. In some of the divisions Luxemburg lamil costing 20 francs a pound was served. A mong the men there was an abundant supply of beef, nurits and minee meat. The cooks vied with each ether in supplying doughnuts, cakes and other forms of sweets and the (tuarterlaster manlagel to get through extra rations of chocolate. There also were many pools among the men to buy poultry from the farmers. Some of the troops along the Moselle bought pike or river trout.
