COULDN'T GO AT ALL Is Back on Pay Roll Now and Work ing Steadily-Gives Detail. "I suffered from a very weak con dition and what I was told was threatened paralysis, but I took seven or eight bottles of Tanlac and I'm 'in len shape now," declared J. L. McClellan, of Williamston, S. C., in a statement he gave in endorsement of Tanlac. "I had become so weak I could not go about at all and for a year I was in that condition. I had .:o appetite, never felt well and got no better to amount to anything, even though I was under treatment, and I had begun to think I never would get back in good shape again. "But the Tanlac gave me Ine re sults and I'm much stronger now and I'm working regularly at night. I have a very Ine appetite, -too. Soon after I began taking Tanlac I began to fatten up right along. I am glad to recommend Tanlac, for it 'got me back on my feet and proved to me just the medicine I needed." Tanlac, the Master Medicine, is sold by Dickson's Drug Store, Man ning; L. W. When this pest is confined to vetch or grass a deep furrow can be plowed around the field and when the \worms pile up in the furrow drag a log through it. Poison the adjoining margins of corn and cotton fields, Graze the infested area heavily. If the ground is level use heavy roller, If a road or driveway separates the infested from the threatened crop, use drag in killing the caterpillars when crossing. Cut and cure the in-. fested grass for hay if far enough advanced and plow and plant another crop. When they attack cotton and corn these should be dusted with arsenate of lead powder. For this an ordinary 'flour sack from which the starch has been removed, can be used. It may be tied to the end of a stick. For large areks a sack is attached to each end of a pole %nd the operator rides on horse back when applying it. It is made as fol lows: A strip of wood three inches wide, one inch thick and one foot longer than width of rows. Six inches from each end bore a hole one inch or more in diameter. Make two sacks of eight ounce duck six inches deep and twenty inches long and about the wvidth of the strip of wVood. The o)pen sidles are tacked to the ends of the strip (calledl Pole) and these can be filled with poison through the auger hole in the ends of the pole. A fun nel can be usedl to advantage. Flour sacks having no starch are excellent. One man can poison about 20 acres per (lay wvith this apparatus. The best time to apply poison is in the morning when the dew is on. Thxe sacks should not touch the foliage especially wvhen the dew is on, as it will clog. One can regulate the amount by judliciously varying the amount of jarring of the pole. It, is important that the dlusting is uniform. It is rarely necessary to repeat dust ing of Arsenate of Lead affter a rain. The amount of poison necessary is about two poundis per acre for very young cotton and ttwvo and one-half to three pounds for cotton over three feet high. Arsenate of Lead powder may be dlustedl pure while Paris Green should be mixed equal parts with air slack edl lime. Arsenate of Lead (does not burn the leaves while Paris Green fre quently dloes. The amount dlustedl can be determined by weighing before and after (lusting a small definite area. -- 0 PEACHI TREE BORER Clemson College, S. C., June 25. The grain crop this year is so short that there will be a great demand for seed this fall, and seed will be hard to get except at high prices. The far mers, therefore, who have any wheat should make every effort possible to preserve this in good condition for fall planting, or for sale as seed, if there i~s more than enough for his own use. By cleaning the grain thorough ly, and placing it in a. room or bin, built so as to permit the use of carbon .bisulphide, all rats and weevils can be destroyed, and the grain kept in good condition for seed. Carelessness in this matter will cause many to have to pay high prices for seed in the fall. All seeds raised on the farm, such as the farmer can save for use for the next crop, should be taken care of so that they will not be dam aged. Not only for one's own sake, but for the sake of others, who have no grain crop from which to save seed. A tigh crib, and one which is rat proof, will aid greatly in help ing the farmer to save all seeds in good condition. If there is not enough room in the crib, then tight bins should be built in the barns, or else where, and these used for the stor age of grain seeds. Carbon Bisul phide will kill the weevils. Detailed information will be furnished to all who write for information in regard to saving seeds. The oat crop in the state is the lightest in several years, and it is ex tremely important that all farmers having good fields of oats save as many as possible for seed purposes this fall. The demands for seed oats this fall will probably be very heavy, and it may be impossinie to get them accept at very high prices. TIOBACCO AT KINGSTREE The first load of tobacco of the season to be brought to this market was received at the Nelson Ware house from HT. A. Miller, who has been the first man on the market for the past three years. OR~ANGEHURG PACKING HOUSE TzO OP~EN EARLY THIts FALL Clemson College, S. C., June 25. The opening of the new Packing House in Orangeburg early this fall will furnish a ready market for all stock. This will be of great help to the farmers of the state, and they should do all they can to make it a success. The plant will pay the mar ket price for hogs that are well fin ished. The farmers can do a lot for themselves and toward aiding to make the plant a success if they will plant a variety of grazing arops, etc., in ordler that they can produce more hogs, better hogs, andl at less expense. In growing more feed stuffs, they can make the pork for less cost and so make greater net returns. The Beauty Secret. Ladies desire that irre.. sistible charm---a good complexion.
