Sardinia Home Demonstration Club held its usual meeting at the School Building, March 23, with quite a num ber of members present. The meet ing was called to order by the presi dent, followed by the Club Song and Prayer. Roll call was responded to with quotations. The topic for discusion was "Care of Food in the Homes," led by the president, Mrs. T. H. McCutchen. Af ter the introduction, different mem bers entered into the discussion which proved to be very interesting. Miss Richardson, our county agent, was with us and all through the meeting 'she very ably assisted in the pro gram. Miss Richardson had with her an "Iceless Refrigerator" which she explained fully to the club. Every oine was delighted with the refrige rator and many members will soon be using one in their homes. The "Window Box" was also care fully exhibited and all were interest ed in knowing just how to construct one at home. The care of mily and buter was given special attention, also the care of milk vessels. Another most interesting point broughe out by Miss Richardson, was a simple but very effective method for cleaning silver ware. Coffee and tea also had a place in . the discus sion. The next program will be on 'Com munity Sanitation" and at this meet ing each member is asked to bring some helpful reading, hint, or original plan to further interest in the work of Community Sanitation. McCord, Acting Sec. 0 SUMMERTON HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUB The Summerton Home Demonstra tion Club sold its regular monthly meeting at the School House, Wed nesday afternoon, March 28th. There was a very good attendance and three new members were added to the roll. We then studied "Care of the Food in the Home." Miss Richardson was with us and gave several useful sug gestions and demonstrated fully the iceless refrigerator. Ie was then in order to elect offi cers for the ensuing year. A com mittee of three was appointed to re tire and nominate them. The follow ing were nominated and elected by acclamation: Mrs. A. R. Brown, President; Mrs. Hatie P. Mood, Vice President; Mrs. H. P. Troy, Secre tary and Treasurer. There being no further business the club adjourned. MANY MEN EN[ISTING IN NAVY The Editor: The Naval Recruiting Officer re ports that results are beginning to show fron the President's appeal for the Navy to be recruited to war strength. Since Sunday, the 25th, over 120 men have applied for enlistment; about 35 of these being Charleston ians.. However, due to the urgency of this call and the enthusiastic re sponse with which it is being met by the North and East, the Recruiting Officer expressed lhimself as being a little disappointed with the results to date. Lieutenant Cooper stated that, "While in no manner wishing to de tract from the imperative call of duty which is urgent and ever-y American owes his country, he again appeals to eligible boys and their parents to con sider the Navy as a gateway to un limited opportunities for personal ad vancement.
