McCall tells this story about the former speaker. who was an unusually large man: When his daughter Katherine, or "Kitty." as he called her, was a little girl she had a cat to which she was much devoted. One day the kitten 'was sleeping in Reed's chair when he was about to sit down. His daughter, in horror. gave the chair a sudden pull to save the cat from annihilation, and as a res:it Mr. Iteeu sat down heavily on the 1ia:'. it was a rather serious hap penin;: for a nian of his size, and even a lesser mnan might easily have lost his' temper. Eut the only notice he took of the. matter was to say gravely after he had got on his feet, "Kitty, remet!. ber that it is easier to get another cat than another father." Chair.s on All Four Wheels. When one places chains on the rear wheels of an automobile only, as is so often done. he overlooks the fact that It is the forward pair of wheels that give the car its direction 'and that It is if anything more important to Insure these against skidding than the rear wheels. The only way to be safe is to put chains oji all four wheels in slip pery weather. The slight trouble In volved Is in no way commensurate to the danger which Is always present where skidding is a possibility. A driver who is too lazy and shiftless to take this simple precaution should be deprived of his license.-Outing. A Nice Point.
