The' notable social event in Manning during the past week was the annual receptio tendered the adult members of the con regation by the L-dies' Mis sionarv Society* of the Presbyterian -church. The reception was held at the elegant home of Capt. and Mrs. W C. Davis. and the attendance numbered neariv a hundred. includinz scveral out side friends who were individually in- ] vite~d. The entire lower floor was open I ed to the guests and there was a de li-ht fui social commingling until about the uoou of night. There were a num ber of charming musical renditions, both vocal and instrumental. Piano se leurious were viven by Mrs. John S. Wilbon. Miss Edna Brockinton, Miss 1 [Ria Lee Bowman and Miss Augusta I Appeit, and vocal solos were given by .Miss Vallve Appelt and Miss Louise ( Brockintoon.
