Tn our renort of the mass meeting, held last week, referring to the tax on bonds _for the new court houxe, our mathemiatics got out of joint we -hould ave said that an additional tax of two uills woald be 20 cents on an as-essed valuation of $100. and $2 on an assessed valuation of *N000. In our judirment. it will not be necessary to levy for court house bonds more than one mill, be cause, the present total assessed valua ion of real estate, railroads and per. onal property is $3.18.595. and a levy DfOone mill will bring $3.718.59. The interest on .40,000 bonds at 5 per cent is *3000, t-hus leaving a surplus of K1.59 to go into a sinking fund each year, and this can be put, at interest, so t the end of 40 years, the surplus oether- with the accrued interest will oid veryv much in liquidating the onds. In forty years the surplus without interest will amount to $28. ~4360, and too it, must be remembered that as the years roll on property alues increase, and as this increase oes the -.orplus becomes larger mak in the interest earning of the surplus flore' andi more to the end that when he bonds become due the earned in Lerest with t he surplus will cancelled he entire debt. Sc) our readers will ;ee that Clarendon can have a safe, omfortable, and a court house worthby of her citizenship at a cost that vir dv amoun(ts~t to nothing. Think of t: A man who has his property as ~es-d at $100) contr ibuting 10 cents o vear' for a building that will keep his land records safe, and even if be is ever rawn on a, jury, he will be comforta ble. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ DeWitt's Carbolized Witch Hazel Salve-don't forget the name, and ac ept no substitute.
