The terrible news of Jimmie Sprott's Billy goat eating geraniums this morn ing went singing over .the telephone' wires, and caused an interruption of businesss at the Cashier's desk in the Bank of Manning. Mr. C. W. Pickering has accepted a position as bookkeeper at the Bank of Clarendon. Mr. Pickering is a very conscientious and painstaking gentle-1 man and will prove a valuable addition to this prosperous institution. The town of Summnerton is contem plating the building of a town hall, electric lights, waterworks and having a fire department. If it continues to grow it will take the rest of Clarendon to make a cabbage patch for it. The work of adding another story to the Bank of Manning is in the course of preparation, and when completed Charlton DuRant, Esq., will occupy a suite of law offices, and Dr. J. A. Cole a suite of rooms for dental parlors. Senator Tillman's manifesto is a dis appointment to those who love ginger in their'n.' The large power job press we had expected to be running in our ottice by now, is lying smashed up in Lhe rail road depot, through the grossest kind of carelessness in the loading at the shipping point, the machine was per mitted to roll about in the car. and its castings are broken beyond repair. We have taken the matter up with_ the railroad, and in the meantime awaiting an adjustment, we will negotiate for another press.' This accident is a sad disappointment to us, as well as a loss of time and money. Died in the Baker Intirmary in Sm ter last night, Capt. William S. 3riggs, aged 57 years. The Paxville school closed last Fri day, on account we understand, of a lack of public funds. The dispensary fund is supposed to furnish the -oublic schools with a large amount of money and here in a prosperous section of a dispensary county a public school closes in March for a lack of money. There must be something wrong somewhere, and the citizens of that school district should see after it. Town Ticket. MAYOR. D. M. Bradbam. ALDERMEN. P. B. Mouzon. J. W. Rigby. J. F. Dickson. E. S. Fellow-Farmers of Clarendon Countv: The last and final report of the ginners puts the crop of 1905-6 at 10.000.000 bales. after de ducting round bales. linters and the .average weight per bale of previous years. This infor mation with the farmers holding the balance k of their crop has brought consternation to the exprters and spinners as it shows at least a I million and a half bales less than what will be needed for actual consumption this year. jud: - ing by last years' consumption and with out standing contracts by the mills to de.iver goods. Farmers. if you will only realize the situation and hold to your cotton you are certain to ,et the 15 cents as asked for by the Association. They are writing to spot holders, and drivor' nl over the county,. usin;: every method of argu ment to buy ev'ery bale that is in sight. They argue that 15 cent cotton is not possible. that the farmers are not going to stick out for 1.5 ents cotton. I am glad to say I believc the farmers will stick. and so sure as- they hold out . cents cotton is a sirr'ity. JTudging from my bseftion and that of the executive commit tee of this couuty I am quite sure the farmers are determined to hold and to reduce until the ight is won. Frilow-Farmers. this is the most critical time since the formation of the asso iation. It is impossible for me to get over the county as fast as three well paid cotton buyers. But I advise you to hold every bale of cotton for .1a cents and turn mione loose for less, and the vic tory, which means so much for the South is then won. Listen to no, argument that will get from you your cotton. Stick out for 15 cents. and swing to every bale with a death-like grip. Watch their movements and you will be con vinced that the time is now here for the light to the finmsh. '- E. D. HoDGE.
