Paul's advice to Timothy was to first take heed to himself (1 Tim. iv, 16). and our Lord taught us that if we would get the motes out of other people's eyes we must first get the beam out of our own eve (Maitr. vii. .'. The first thing for .achi individu:'! is a right relationship to (d. and this can be obtained only by receivilig His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and in Him I the forgiveness of All our sins and a righteousness which makes us accepted in Ili and 1gives us the standing of children and heirs of God and joint heirs with .esus Christ (John 1. 12; Eph. i. G. 7: Rtom. viii, 16. 171. This be ing established and we assured of it by the Spirit through the word, we are then as amt-bassadors of Christ author iyed to move forward on behalf of the interests of His kingdom. When Josiah was twenty, or in the twelfth year of his reIgn, he, being himself purified. began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from her idols and idol atry, doubtless remembering and obey Ing, the Iord's words at the founding )f the nation, "I am the Lord thy God; * * * thou shalt have no other gods be fore Me." When an individual or a na tion has heard and seen Jehovah idols are no longer tolerated (Hos. xiv, S). In IT Kings xxiii. 1-14. there is :t more full account of the cicansing o)f the land, and there we le' a that it was preceded by JTosiahs reading to the eld ers and to the people all the words of the boo0k of the covenant which was found in the house of the Lord. It is the word of God that sanetinies and clenscs (John xvii, 17: Eph. v, 26; Ps. exix, 11i. The burning of the bones of men up on1 the altars (verse 5) is more fully de scribed in I[ Kings xxiii, 15-18, and when compared with the prophecy ut tered nearly 300 yeiars before, referred to earlier in this lesson, we cannot but be reminded of such words as Isa. xiv, 24; xlvi, 10: Ps. xxxiii. 10, 11. To know the purpose of God, "-ihe eternial pur pose wvhich Ie purposed in Christ .esus our Lord" (Eph. ili, 11), and to live in that purpose is the greatest of all honors conferred upon miortals, and it is openi to all. Tihe last part of our lesson tells of Josiah's efforts to repair the temple and to undo the harni which had been done by other kings of Judah (verse 11), for- though Manasseh endeavored to undo some of his great w.rongdoing his son Amnon walked in his nerst ways and trsassed more and m-vre (chapter xxxiii). The tabernacle first, then the temple, was the center of Israel as a nation, for there God dwelt in their miist (E-x. xxv S), anid the neglect of Gods dwelling place nmeant the neglect of God Ilims~elf. PBelievers are the temples of the Ioly Spirit, mansions in which Father. In ver'se 12 of our lesson we note that the mecn did the work faithfully. re ~iing tus of our Lord's wvords, "Who. then, is a faithful and wvise serv'ant?"
