Golden Text. 'Matt. xxi, (), "Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord." One great truth in this lesson is the literal fulfillment of Scripture by Him of wiom 'Moses in the law and the proph ets wrote. Golden Text, Gal. v, 13, "By' love serve one another." He knew that Ile had come from God and was going back to God, and He would teach His disciples, to whom He had given 1he glory which the Father gave Him, that while here In humilia tion, waiting for the kingdom to come, we must not in any way seek our own greatness, but humble ourselves to walk with God. LEssoN VI.-The vine and the branch es (John xv, 1-12). Golden Text, John xv. S, "Herein is My Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit." The fruit is borne by the branches, but It is the vine that does it through the branches, and the branches simply abide, subject to the care of the husbandman. When the Christian life is understood there is a freedom from all anxiety and yet the growth and beauty of the lily and the fruitfulness of the vine. -LEssoN VII.-Jesus prays for His fol lowers (John xvii, 15-20). Golden Text, John xvii, 9, "I pray for them." Not only does He give us His own Spirit to live in us, teach us, guide us, comfort us. but He assures us that it is His life secures our life and that He ever liveth to ninke intercession for us (John xiv, 19; Rom. viii, 34). He does not save us to take us out of the world to heaven, but to leave us here as His witnesses, kept by His power. LnssoN ~VIII.-JeSus before Pilate (John xviii, 2S-40). Golden Text, John xviii, 37, "Every one that is of the truth heareth My voice." By His 'suf ferings Mle made a full atonement for sin, even tile sins of the whole world, and to this we can add nothing, but His conduct before Pilate and while in the hands of His enemies' teaches us how we should act before our enemies, for if we are truly is and living god l lives we will be hated by the world and fin many enemies. LEssoN IX.-The crucifixion (John xix, 17-30). Golden Text, I Cor. xv, 3, "Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures." The hour came for which He came into the world, and He became a curse for us, for it Is written, "Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree." Happy indeed are all who, see Ing Ihis sufferings, truly say, "For me," and, receiving Him, cry gratefully, "Christ bath redeemed me from the enrse of the law'" LEssoN X.--The resurrection (John xx, 11-23). Golden Text, I Cor. xv, 20, "But now is Christ risen from the dead and become the first fruits of them that slept." The resurrection is that which makes all else effective, for if He be not risen there is no one saved, nor ev er will be (I Cor. xv, 14-19). If He is not the risen Christ lie is nothing, not even a good man, for He said that He would rise again the third day. .But He is risen, and Gal. Ii, 20, may .be the lan guage of every 'believer. LEsSSON XL.-The message of the risen Christ (Rev. i, 10-20). Golden Text, Rev. i, 18, "I am He that liveth and was dead, and; behold. I am alive for evrmore." This is His testimony as He appeared to John In Patmos over sixty years after His return to the Fa ther as our ever living High Priest ministering to His people. He lives; He ever -liveth. LEssoN XIL.-The heavenly home (Rev. xxii. 1-11). Golden Text. Rev. iii, 21, "To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with MIe in Mvy throne." If redeemed by His precious brood, we are in confiet with the world, the flesh and the devil, but while waiting for the kingdom and living to hasten it we may make manifest in our lives a sam ple of it by seeing His face, serving Him only and reflecting His glory. .-0-. The ikind You Have Always Dought Bears the A FAMOUS STAR GROUP. The Constellation Orion In Legend - afd Literature. The constellation Orion is mentioned in the literature of all ages. In Egypt it represented Horus, the young or ris ing sun, in a boat surmounted by stars, closely followed by Sirius, which was shown as a cow. It has also been found sculptured on the walls of Thebes 5.000 years ago. And on the men of that early time it shone down from the same position and with the same brightness as it does on us today, a striking example of the unchange ableness of the heavens. From the days of the early Hindoos to the present the constellation has for some reason borne always a stormy character. Allusions to its direful influ ence are found everywhere among the classic writers. Thus Milton wrote: When with fierce winds Orion arrived Hath vexed the Red sea coast. The loss of the Roman squadron in the first Punic war was ascribed to the fleets having sailed just after the ris ing of Orion. The group has also been employed as a calendar sign, its morn ing rising indicating the beginning of summer, its midnight rising the season of grape gathering and its early even ing rising the arrival of winter, with its attendant storms. In recent times the group has always represented a great hunter or warrior. Its present title came into Greek astronomy from the Euphrates and originally signified the light of heaven. I keep a bottle of it in my room as I have had saveral attacks of colic and it proved to be the best medicine I ever used." Sold by The R. 13. Loryea Drug Store. Isaac M. Loryea. Prop. A WONDERFUL CHILD. John Stuart Mill Was a Genius at Three Years of Age. At three years of age John Stuart Uill began the study of Greek, with "arithmetic as an evening relaxation." as Samuel Wellington puts it in the Westminster Review. At eight he began Latin, Euclid and algebra and had to act as tutor to the younger children. He was a stern and efficient tutor. At twelve he began scholastic logic and political economy-the latter his main lifework. . At fourteen,-while paying a long vis it to Sir Samuel Bentham In southern France. he learned French as a relaxa tion from studying two or three hours before breakfast, five hours between breakfast and dinner and- two or three in the evening. Being fot the time master of his own hours and not sub ject to a stern father, he took lessons also in his spare hours in music, sing ing, dancing, fencing and riding, but never became proficient. At sixteen Mill could speak in debate with adults with ease and freedom. At eighteen he contributed to the Westminster Review. At twenty-one he was made assistant in the India office and received a large salary for those days. But Mill was bald at twenty-two. He did.not marry until he was forty five. He himself said: "I never was a boy. It is better to let nature have its own way." Ten Times Easier. THE ENCORE. It Originated In France In the Seven teenth Century. The beginning of the encoi-e dates back to some time between 1645 and 1709, probably about 1680, when Louis XIV. demanded the repetition of cer tain parts of an opera. The opera was by Corneille, Fontenelie and Boileau, which was sung before his majesty, and the king was so pleased with cer tain parts that he asked to have them repeated. It took fully a century for the ordinary opera goers to obtain the kings prerogative for themselves. It came about in this way: Gluck had produced an opera which had been a failure; but, having rewritten the worst parts, he produced it again. One or two songs were accepted by the au dience with applause, and one in par ticular was demanded a second time. The most remarkable encores on rec ord are those which were insisted upon by the late king of Bavaria. Before he was known to be insane, when merely thought eccentric, he had plays per formed before him as the sole auditor, the curtain rising at midnight. If he liked the play he insisted on having it repeated at once. But, unlike most en core fends, he paid liberally for them. Though our word "encore" is adopt ed from the French, they themselves do not make use of it in this connec tion. They call "Bis, bis," and obtain a repetition.-New York Herald. Furioun Fighting! ''For sevea years," writes Geo. W. Hoffuan, of Harper, Wash., "I had a bitter battle, with chronic stomach and liver trouble, but at last I won, and cured my diseases, by the use of Electric Bitters. I unhesitatingly rec ommend them to all, and dont intend in the future to be without them in the house. They are certainly a wonder ful medicine, to have cured such a bad :ase as mine."
