Monday eveninr. ureceddl on Sunday a very able sermon by 11ev. J. W. Oliver of Florence. and although efforts proved unavailing to procure a speaker from abroad to deliver the annual address Rev. P. B. Wells proved himself to be an excellent -eiergency man" for notwithstauding the short notice given him he delivered one of the finest ad dresses we have ever listened to on such occasions. The Institute auditorium was filled with an appreciative audience, and the well selected program was magnifi eently earried out. The graduating class performed their parts in a most creditable manner, and it is not sur prising that the trustees should have displayed the good judgment to re-elect the present teachers. Their work has been so satisfactory that not the slight est complaint has ever reached our ears. and the work done was an exhi bition of duty well performed. The declaimers were far above the average in rendition and subjects selected. and the essays would have been a credit to college aradutes. The display made by the children was indeed a picture of lovliness. The music and singing brought forth merited applause. Major Abe Levi for the trustees made a splen id report of the institution and in do ing so gave the parents and friends an excellent talk. Professor Pugh pre sented the diplomas and certiticates in an appropriate manner, and then for about an hour Rev. P. B. Wells enter tained the audience with an address, bristling with humor, pathos, logic and wholesome food for thought. We herewith give our readers a brief synopsis of his eloquently delivered ad dress: "I have been asked to deliver a "lit erary address." Let me call your at tention to that which lies at the founda tion of our noblest and best literature. which is its source and inspiration, which is the foundation of all that is highest and best in our civilization to day, -to the book of books, to the Bible. For several reasons it ifworthy of your most earnest study. -It is the oldest book in the world, part of it dating back for 2000 years before the dawn of well authenticated profane history. Yes, it reaches further back.-to the beginning. before the dawn of creation: 'In the beginning God'-It is the newest book in the world. The interest in it, instead of decreasing, is on the increase day by day. It is being studied as never be fore. Thousands of books and pamph lets are issued from the press each year, the sole object of which is to throw light on this Book. In each of the past ten years the B. and F. Bible So ciety has circulated four times as many copies of the Bible as in any previous year of its history: The American Bible Society 2* times as many. "The Bible is more provocative of thought than any other, than all other books. The great English Premier spent the last and maturest years of hfs life in preparing a volume on this book, 'The impregnable Rock of Holy Scriture,' "Voltaire and Ingersoll predicted that in a few years it would become obsolete. They are dead and gone, but millions each year are accepting it as their guide, and 3000 churches were built last year for its study. "The Bible is literature: the poetry f the Psalms and the reaches of thought of Isaiah have not been equaled. It is the inspiration of the best in our liter ature, Dante's 'Divine Comedy' and 'Paradise Lost' of Milton. It has had a wonderful effect in moulding our lan guage, and the great masters of En lish style have been moulded by its "Itd is at the foundation of our civil ad religious liberty. "It is the great agent in upliftimg mankind. Our noblest institutions findl their foundation here. "It solves all the questions of the present and future. "It must be the corner-stone of every institution of learning that shall stand the test of time and live to bless the world. I commend it to your earnest studv. And you. who leave these walls tonight, take it for your guide, fashion you characters according to its' teach ing, and your lives will be grand suc esses in time and eternity." Spring Fever. Spring fever is another name for bil iovsness. It is more serious than most peple think. A torpid liver and inactive bowels mean a poisoned system. If eglected, serous illness may follow such symptoms. DeWitt's Little Early Risers remove all danger by stimulat ing the liver. opaning the bowels and leansing the system of impurities. Safe pills. Never gripe. '"I have taken DeWitt's Little Early Risers for torpid liver every spring for years," writes R. M. Ev'erhy, Moundsville, W. Va. "They do me more good than anything have ever tried." The first charter ever granted in this country or probably any other for the building of a railroad was granted in 1819 to Henry Drinker by the Pennsyl vania legislature for a road of that kind from the Delaware valley to the headwaters of the Lehigh river over the route now occupied by the Dela ware, Lackawanna and Western rail road from the Water Gap to Scranton. That was before the days of steam, and the "wagons" that were to be run on the road were to be moved by horse power. That old charter and the rights it conveyed were purchased by the original Delaware and Lackawan na company for $1,000. CASTORIA For Tnants and Children. The Kind You Have Always Bought Bears the Signature of Tree That Term to St ;ie. There is a tree thmu grows i:n Mexico called the "chijol." or stone tree. It is of enormous proportions, both !i cir cumference and height. It has a num ber of branches spreading out widely and carrying leaves of a yellowish green color. The wood is extrem ely fine and easily worked in a green state. It is not given to either warping or split ting. The most remarkable thing about it is that after being cut the wood gets gradually harder, and In the course of a few years it is absolutely petrified whether left in the open air or buried in the ground. From this timber houses can be built that would in a few years become completely fireproof and would last as though built of stone. How to Avoid Trouble. Now is the time to provide yourself and family with'a bottle of Chamber lain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy. It is almost certain to be needed before the summer is over, and if procured now may save you a trip to town in the night or in your busiest season. It is everywhere admitted to be the most successful medicine in use for bowel complaints, both for children and e~dults. No family can afford to be without it. For sale by The R. B.
