News reached here Monday after
noon about a threatened race riot in
Georgeto wn. Captain Le wis received
a telegram from Giovernor' McSwee
ney calling on him to furnish twenty
five mnen equipped to go to the scene
of tile threatened riot. There being
no military organization here and
theC guns of the former organization
which has long ago been disbanded,
having been shipped to tile adjutant
and inspector general. Captain Lewis
was forced to reply accordingly. The

Prize Sale.
Last Thursday was "Tobacco day"
in Manniin., and from nearly the en
tire toba co helt tobacco was repre
sented u pon the spacious floors of
the Peole's Warehouse. Mr. C. M.
Mason, the energetic manager of this
house, had induced some ot our pub
lie spirited citizens to contribute
prizes for the sale and the conse
quence was.that about 22,000 pounds
of the golden leaf was put on his
floor and brought prices from 5 cents
to 45. There was no monkey busi
ness in this sale, no pets withr.small
piles to receive high prices as baits
for others, but it was a fair and
square deal all around and satisfac
tion was depicted upon all faces.
Some parties with large piles aver
aged over 20 cents per pound.
