On the morning of Aug. 10t Mrs Graham and I set out for Panola. A Davis Station we were joined by Ar tbur Jones and Miss May Jones. Al Summerton we stopped for a look a! the Scarborough house, this is indeet a ine house. Not much interest wai seen from here to Lewis Chapel where ne found a protracted meetiu in progress; after listening to a fin( sermon by Rev. Mason of Lynch bourg. W. R. Davis and Co. are erecting f ginnery and grist mill. Joe Rigb3 is also here merchandising and farm. ing.0 I saw here some as fine crops as ii has ever been my pleasure to see and if we are to judge from appear ances, these are indeed a prosperou people, after a nights rest; we agair set out for a days ride, our host ani Arthur Jones accompanying us. Oui first point was Remini, here we san lots of fine rice growing, and realll Remini seemed of more importanc< than my imagination had pictured it on our way here we passed the fin( farms and beautiful homes of the Felders; from Itemini took the Ilivel road for Flood's Mill. We found the mii running, and lots of our dark ued friends of both sexes fishing.The scenery here was beautiful. The next places of interest were the largi farms, known as Big Home, Hickor: Hill and Elm Wood. These are wel orth seeing; the beautiful level field. reaching for miles, containing acres and acres of the finest land. In som< places the road was lined on eaci side with beautiful shade trees, but in many places we saw the work o: the ax, which seems to me almosl wronz. Those old trees are almost istoric land marks. These lands arn cultivated almost entirely by negrdes. At Big Home our friends left us, tak ng a r'eturn road for home. Afte: passing many fine places, we reachied David Levi's store. I was surprised o see this a pretty and growing lit ie village. We obtained an additior o our lunch and proceeded to St. Paul church; here we took an hout rest, then proceeding to Davis Cross Roads. Here everything seemed prosperous; from here wve went tc Scarborough's convict farm, crossing the old Haynesworth mill dam. Noth ing of interest to see there,exeept the ruins of the old- mill. We also saw more of our friends fishing, but as may as we saw fishing, not one fisi did we see, but wve were told by Mr. Wells that some very line ones could e caught at Floods Mill. At Scar >~roughs we saw very fine crops, overing acres of fine land; this is said to be among, if not the finest, farm in the county. The convicts seemed content, <nd I may say hal) v, singing or wvhistling as they orked. We made our way from there o Davis Station,arriving home about o'clock, p. mn. I cannot tell the exact distance traveled, as there were no mile posts, The ride was enjoyed by both miyself ad wife.
