The Manning String Band were out on a serenading expedition last Monday. Mr. Henderson, with his lovely bride, nee Miss Ida Briggs, passed through Manning Thursday on their way to Spartanburg, the home of the room. gThe Thrs has long boasted of the friendship of Miss Ida, and her ser 'vices as correspondent have ever been highly appreciated. One in the morming at about 5 o'clock, and the other between two and three in the afternoon. Both shook glasses and furniture in the houses, and made timid hearts quake and tremble. ELECTION NEXT TUESDAY. Next Tuesday is the day for the, general election. The voters of the county have a duty to perform. They are expected on that day to be pres ent at the polls. Duty and patriot ism require this. There are two con stitutional questions to be voted for or against; so vote intelligently-ev-, ery citizen should make himself thor oughly acquainted with the nature and effect of these. We hope to see a full Democratic vote cast-a vote that will convince our political enemies that the party of peace and protection is still alive in Clarendon MARRIAGE BELLS. On last Wednesday evening, the 20th inst., the Methodist Church of or town, brilliantly lighted and hand somely decorated, furnished as pret-! ty a scene as was ever beheld in Man ning. It was the occasion of the marriage of Miss Sue Gjalluchat, one! of Manning's loveliest daughters, to Prof. S. A. Nettles, editor of the Clar endon Enterprix, and Principal of' the' Manning Academy. Promptly at 6 o'clock the organ pealed forth the glorious strains of the wedding march. This was the signal for the en~tran~ce of the groomsmaen an , .rides-maids, who were followed by the bride andI groom. The ceremony was perform ed by Rev. A. Nettles, father of the groom, immediately after which the party proceeded to the res idence of the bride's mother and from there toth depot, where they bado adieu to the nappy couple who board ed the 7 o'cloek train for a trip to Charleston. After reading "Argonaut's" com munication in last week's issue of the ToEs, on the deecil's bad spelling, etc., I feel that I would be doing myself an injustice if I didn't reply and try to show that the d<'--i1 is not the only one that makes mistakes; and that "Argonaut" has made, by his own ac count, six mistakes to the deril's one, he making the .wall number of fif teen. He has "fostered the idea that y looks prettier in amethyst than i," and I agree with him, after having looked in the dictionary; but beg leave to state that he had it spelt with e, instead of y, making it read "ame test"-it seems to m- that "amethist looks decidedly better than "ame thest," as it doesn't change the pro nuncition of the word. while "mue thest" gives it an entirely diferent ound. In regard to his mianiiseript, I would say I think it is to blame-ii he'd think so too, if he saw it, with all the wrong spelled words I have marked. Dxvi. TAX COLLECTIW.
