Mrs. Pierson was a most esti mable lady and had lived out her allotted -time in a well spent life. Her remains were interred at Midway Church beside those of her husband, who for so many years was the acceptable pastor at that place, and where she worshiped with him.-Cbwdy .Recond. I'se been married befo'." Hot Shpief. There will be a festival at the Academy in Summerton Thursday evening, Oct. 29th, for the benefit of the Baptist Church which is being erected at that place. Hams, tur keys, baked chickens and fowls, cakes, pies &c., &e.; will be abundantly furnished for the occasion. We feel assured that all who may attend will spend a pleasant evening and enjoy a good supper. In the large crowd attending Court the usual cumber of: "tipplers" are conspicu ously absent. We might congratulate the County on this seeming reformation if an oher and perhaps more probable cause did not suggest itselt. These old topers of the days gone by may be wrecked on the rock called hard times, instead of kneeling around the reformatory stool. Tis among the possibilities that the want of funds can accomplish even more than prohibition and high license. Ve have been informed by our Ex-Rep resentative, Svfax Milton, that the report of his again running for the Legislature is croundless and totally untrue. He says he has the highest regard for Maj. Richard son, though differing from him in politics, and does not propose to throw an obsticle in his way. Four missionaries and 5,200 gallons of rum left this country on the same ship to interview the native African. We don't see how he can get away from both. We clip with pleasure the follow ng from the Nac.< and CJour'ier: FoREsos, S. C., Oct. '24.-To estimates the yield of a field of corn co,.taining 21 a res and a hatf Major C. S. Land of this place, yesterday called in six farmers, two f whom were from Marlboro' County. They selected an average acre, measured it off, gathered., shucked and shelled it, and the result was 89.} bushels. The corn was culti ated in the ordinary way and was more than an average crop, from 50 to 60 bushels per acre was expected. Major Land esti mates that, the fertilizing, cultivating and ousing of the corn will amount to s135.50. He also made a fine crop of peas and forage .which will more than cover all the expences of making the corn and will realize a~ net profit at GO ets per bushel of $1,154.25 on the field of corn. The hot supper at the Grange Hall last night for the benefit of Calvary church was a coma ~lete success socially, and pecuniarily; eve ry thing calculated to tickle the palate of an epicure was in abundance, and indeed it would require the pen of an epicure, or Lu curs, assisted by the~ eve of a Wilde to do full justice to the very ?h.ge- collections of fruit, round and sponge cakes, or give a true dlescription of their artistic designs. One of the most pleasant features of the oc casion was the transformation of one of our largest, and most prosperous planters, Mr. 3. W. W. (the charity of whose generous heart can only be equaled by the length of his purse) from a handsome ol bachelor to a huge pyramid of flowers by the young la dies in charge of the boquet department.
