A few days ago I stop> ped in Baltimore and found the three 1 colleges united into one college, the t University of Maryland and the i College .of Physicians and Surgeons. ? A few years after graduation I, " with the late lamented Dr. 0. B. May- j |er, attended the colleges of New York ! city. We found the University of New York and the Belleview Medical > college separate and distinct schools. ; They are now united into one school,! ^ known as the University of New York ! and the Belleview Hospital Medical ? r college. Although both of these cities ha.ve grown wonderfully since I first j < I saw them. Instead of more colleges ' we find fewer. The consolidation 1 ' means more economy and greater efficiency. 1 Last spring Mr. Ballentine who at : otime taught in the high school at Prosperity, told- me that Batesburg i and Leesville had erected an elegant . building between the rival towns and established the Ifeiesburg-Legsville high school. t Years ago whan I first came to J i South Carolina, Lepsville had twoj i schools?and the pepole were bitterly divided between the: Methodists and the Lutherans.
