We have ver'y few whose ja /\ ? kntTAn/1 V AirQ v>*> _ ( . tunc ui CApuaMUU id yt v unu ^ivywxu- i ^ ber 1 of last year. It is the policy j ^ of the management not to carry any subscriber unless the subscription is j paid in advance. It is the best forjt the paper and the subscriber. It is i alst the policy to notify the subscrib- I er of the date of the expiration, though the date appears on the label 0PD0site the name on each paper. V e have gotten behind in send-;3 ing out the notices and for that rea- 3 son we are not discontinuing any sub scription until first giving notice and * the opportunity to renew or to notify us that you would like to have ths subscription carried for a brief time. We shall regret to do this but we have no desire to make any effort to force the paper on any one who dees r not care to take it and to pay for it. One dollar will pay you for six months.and we would be glad to have r you send the dollar and remain with - - - . * 1 i IT us, but if you do not ana we ao not i hear from you by the first of March we will take the name from the list. We will send out two more copies be; fore correcting the list and faking the names off. / Here is the card we have mailed out, or a copy of it: Newberry, S. C., February 12, 1921. 1 Dear Sir:? The trouble is no private citizen cares-to become a public prosecutor. ( The Herald and News only mentioned the matter in the hope that the mere mention would appeal tc the drivers of cars and trucks along p the lines not only of obeying the or- P dinance but as to the absolute use- ^ lessness of this thing of making so much noise for no good purpose. a We still hope that the mention of it; b will appeal to the drivers. ! o ? r I L People who are complaining about; g conditions do not know just what i their forbears endured and suffered', I h some fifty years ago just after the i jclose of the war between the sec- j o tions. The soldiers came home and e n N had to start a crop with nothing to g t**AO v ?*>/ J n Af t A cat anu l\J ?cai ciiiu .iivi* U^ P speak of the scarcity of money. We ^ are in fine shape to what they were t in those days and they tell us that , there was not as much complaining j ^ then as there is now. The thing to do is to cheer up and go to work. Work is a panacea for many ills. The ^ trouble with all of us is that we were v driving too rapidly and there was need of a jolt to cause us to hesitate ^ and take note of our bearings. Evervthin^ was at too great pressure. ^ T W w - I ?, It will all come out right. ^ * y A fool and his gun are soon parted A but usually not until he has perfor- I ated somebody. t V V* ?
