Mr. W. H. Miller of Charleston, ; who lived in Newberry many years ago, spent the week-end here on a visit to his relatives, Messrs H. H. i and E. M. Evans. It has been 16 i years since Mr. Miller last visited j here. For 45 years he has been con! nected with the well known firm of I Walker, Evans & Cogswell, Charles ton, a fine house in a great city. We i were pleased to renew acquaintance ! and revive friendship with Mr. Miller, i who is a Southern gentleman of ! pleasing personality. | Dr. O'Neall Jacobs and family of Newberry have moved to Laurens, where the former will follow his profession as veterinary.?Laurensville ! C., are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson, and other relatives in Newberry, spending a part of his well earned vacation in his former home city, while Mrs. Johnson and | the little daughter are on a visit to their relatives in Maryland. Dr. Johnson's many friends are glad to i see him. They watch his course with interest, taking a pride in his re! SDonsible position as chemist for the government at the national capital, where he is giving such good and satactory service. The Rev. I. E. Long of Charleston, pastor of St. Johannes Lutheran church, although resting from his labors here on his vacation with his family, visiting, relatives in this city, accommodated and pleased the congregation of the Church of the Redeemer and other friends on Sunday morning by preaching an edifying sermon on the words, "What Think Ye of Christ?"* It was a strong and convincing presentation of the subject. Under the spell of the preacher's plea the thought, "Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by," came to mind. The Rev. Mr. Long has many friends here and they are always glad of the opportunity to hear him preach. Pleasant Occasion. Wednesday evening, August 18, was a very enjoyable one spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Green in honor of their daughter, Eddie Marie. The entire front porch, parlor and hallway were attractively decorated and thrown open to the happy throng of young couples.
