PWENTY SEVEN EELS CHOKE
DOWN A WATER MILL
W^'?-r ' v *
Mr. L. C. Singley had a peculiar
and rare experience at his water mill
out on Bush river last Thursday. He
was running along ginning cotton and
suddendly the machinery stopped as
** ~*/&ked down and upon examina.**6
it was found that the water
wheel had a full supply of eels, some
Mb getting in at the same time. They
Kre taken out and weighed just ten
Ibunds. The machinery was started
up again and before long the same
thing occurred and it was found that
the number had increased and another
school of the same fish had
gotten in the wheel and choked down
again and seventeen eels were taken
lout weighing seventeen pounds. They

Party Visit County Home.
The Luther League of Mayer
Memorial Church on Sunday afternoon,
with a number of their friends
visited the county home to bring a
bit of good cheer and happiness to;
the inmates there. They commanded ,
and filled the Mill's big truck and
were piloted by Mr. Evans Shealy. j
Mr. Tillman Matthews, a choir leader i
of no mean ability, was in charge of.
the musical part of the service held!
at the home. Mr. W. A. Clamp led
the service and a short talk was made
by the Rev. W. H. Button. This was
the second trip of its kind made by
the league.
The boll weevil, says the wise
Greenwood Index-Journal, does not
eat corn, peanuts or velvet beans. Hfc
does eat cotton. Pigs thrive on
corn, peanuts and velvet beans. Continue
the line of argument to its ultimate
conclusion and see if you are
not interested. We endorse the remarks
of the Index-Journal.
Boll weevil will bring great pros
perity.?Newspaper headline. Hope
you are right, old sport.
The jam at the picture show Saturday
night gave conclusive evidence?
which has been demonstrated time
and time again on past occasions?
that the house is not near large
enough to accommodate the crowds.
Henry B. Wells is the one man in
Newberry to build a show house of
his own on the ground floor.
On Main street in Varnville there ?
is said to be a sign reading, "Let us
measure you for your coffin." We
are glad that no undertaker in Newberry
has ever resorted to such a
method of advertising.
