J|k leram anil jess. Watered at the Postoifice at New&rrry, S. C., as 2nd class matter. ?. H. AULL. EDITOR. Tuesday, April 11, 11U6. We forgot to tell Mayor Wright and Capt. Joe Werts the little bit of street we were begging them to fix. Well, begging your pardons, here gees. We would be delighted if you would permanently fix the little bit of street from Boundary in Caldwell to the top of the hill in front of the residence of Mr. G. W. Summer and along in front of the Baptist church. Of course, the repairs should go 011 down to me the railroad crossing at least, but we are getting just a little selfish also and are asking only for what would be a little benefit to us. At the same time we are sure that the repair of this little stretch of street would meet the approval of the entire congregation of the church and of Mr. G. W. Sumer ana tMayor WrigM himself, and if extended on, as we suggest, the approval of Dr. Houseal and Mr. C. H. Cannon and Mr. Frank Davis and Mrs. Boozer and so on. If fact, this is one street that should be built on down to the railroad crossing. But there are so many streets that need to be built that we are almost 1 afraid to specify any one particular, little bit of a piece of a street for work. Take Bou ndary street from Mc-; JObbin on out to the city limits, is a i very important thoroughfare and many people from the country travel it. and it is the main road from the | steel bridge. And almost any part of j the public road on to Dead Fali is. better than the street. And then j JVlain street from the Summer's Gar-' age on to the city limits is one of the worst stretches of road on the county t j and it is a part of the Appalachian j hfo-Hwov iVnrl thpn there is College' street from Main on out to the cemetery in an awful condition. And it is * part of the Piedmont highway. A! little money spent on these main ^ streets and arteries of the city would i>e a good investment, but as Mayor ' Wright said the other day, how can j you do these things and make these \ improvements without money. U<he: s-ame old story of n&king bricks without straw. We need an increased in creased income from some source, j and then the money spent on permanent paving. All live and progressive towns are spending money in making permanent streets, and in Florida they | are bui'ding paved public roads through the country. The little town of Greenwood is right now making some fine paved streets, but it takes money. If we want them we can have them, but we must put up the money.! That is the long and the short of the i whole matter. ANNOUNCEMENTS. j For Congress?3rd District.
